Charming and quiet, the one-hundred-year-old neighborhood of Laurelhurst, established in 1909, is just a ten-minute drive to downtown Portland. Thirty-one acres of bucolic shade, including lush grassy areas, a duck pond, walking trails, basketball court, soccer field, tennis courts, playground, and an off-leash area for dogs, Laurelhurst Park’s natural setting is a magnet, pulling the neighborhood together. The first city park ever to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Laurelhurst Park is the focus of neighborhood activity and a great place to take the kids.

In fact, residents of children under the age of 6 can join the Laurelhurst Kids’ Club, organized by neighborhood parents as a way to share resources, which features weekly play groups, a list of trusted babysitters, and pre-school recommendations.

The center of the neighborhood’s Coe Circle features a gilded Joan of Arc on horseback (a full-size reproduction of a statue that still stands at the Place des Pyramides in Paris) which serves as a memorial to World War I.

The 1923-built Laurelhurst Theater, The Goodfoot (live music venue & bar) and nearby Movie Madness (one of largest independent video stores in the country) form the backbone of entertainment in Laurelhurst.
