The Hollywood District, in the Northeast quadrant is Portland’s oldest business district. Originally called Hollyrood, it was later renamed for the historic 1920s-era Hollywood Theatre located here.

Home to the annual Rose Festival Junior Parade each June, Hollywood is alive with things to do on its main thoroughfare, Sandy Boulevard. A variety of local and chain businesses abound – check out the expansive Hollywood Whole Foods Market, Magnolia’s Corner wine bar and Tony Starlight’s Supper Club Lounge, as well as the Hollywood Farmers Market and Laurelwood and Columbia Brewpubs. With a Walk score of 98 (“Walker’s paradise”) the area also boasts the Hollywood Library, a Trader Joe’s, 24 Hour Fitness, Sam’s Billiards, Hollywood Bowl and the popular Mio Sushi.

The Hollywood Transit Center, shuttles Hollywood residents throughout the greater Portland area via Tri-Met’s MAX light rail system and area bus lines. Homes in the tree-lined streets off of Sandy Boulevard are historic—many of them craftsman bungalows with well-maintained yards.

Nearby Grant Park, at NE 33rd Avenue and US Grant Place provides close to 20 acres of al fresco fun with an outdoor pool, playground, picnic site, and off-leash dog area. It’s also home to the Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden, celebrating the writer’s timeless and much beloved characters in bronze.
