Welcome To Canby

Harkening back to a bygone era, the city of Canby, located in the Willamette Valley just 25 miles south of Portland on Oregon Route 99E, has an old-time flavor complete with a historic ferry (providing transportation across the Willamette River to Wilsonville) and a Union Pacific train that runs through the center of town.

Originally founded in 1857 as Baker Prairie, Canby pays homage to its eponym, civil war general Edward Richard Sprigg Canby, on General Canby Day, a family-friendly 4th of July celebration taking place in the heart of downtown. Events include a pancake breakfast during which the King and Queen are announced, over 70 booths of food and crafts, a classic car show, kid’s crafts, a library book sale, bingo, wiener dog races, ice cream, and fireworks!

Also home to the Clackamas County Fairgrounds (the annual Clackamas County Fair and Rodeo has been held here since 1907), the Canby Depot Museum and Hart’s Reptile World, as well as the paved Molalla Forest Road. Once a private logging road, it is now used solely for walkers, runners, and bicyclists. Footwork isn’t the only way to get around, however. The Canby Area Transit (CAT) buses are free, with the exception of connecting to Portland which requires a small $1-2 fee.

The nearby Molalla River State Park will meet all your outdoor recreational needs with plenty of green field space for picnics, an off-leash pet exercise area, fishing, and a boat ramp. No boat, no worries—you can cross the river a quarter of a mile downstream on the Canby Ferry, one of three ferries that still operate along the Willamette River. Be sure to look out for blue heron rookies, the largest concentration of them in the Willamette Valley is located here.

Finally, Canby is a superb business location that offers easy highway access, with all the benefits of a larger city in a cozy rural haven.
